Who We Are

The SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF) empowers workers, promotes high-quality jobs, and improves critical services.

The SEIU Education and Support Fund (ESF) is a 501(c)(3) organization with a successful track record of nearly 30 years managing workforce development grants, developing educational materials, convening health and safety trainings, undertaking public informational efforts and improving standards in the public and service sectors. ESF partners with think tanks, policy makers, advocates, community colleges and businesses, as well as labor unions, chief among them the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

An increasing number of Americans – most of whom are women and people of color – are employed in service sector jobs that are marked by low wages, no health care, job insecurity, and lack of training and career advancement opportunities. The SEIU Education and Support Fund (ESF) tackles these issues by designing and facilitating worker-centered, relationship-based, and accessible education, training and workforce development programs.  We serve as a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and collaborate with other unions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and employers to help workers access good jobs and spark positive social change. Throughout our work, we promote a culture of empowerment that honors experience, culture, diversity, and inclusion.

What We Do

ESF is active nationwide in the sectors of early childhood education, human services, and property services. We serve as a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU),, and collaborate with other unions, nonprofits, government agencies, and employers to help workers access good jobs and spark positive social change. Our public advocacy efforts have centered around issues that matter deeply to the communities we serve, such as combating racial and gender inequities, eliminating discrimination against immigrants, highlighting the contributions of essential services workers, and mitigating the effects of climate change.

An increasing number of Americans – most of whom are women and people of color – are employed in service sector jobs that are marked by low wages, no health care, job insecurity, and lack of training and career advancement opportunities. The SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF) tackles these problems head-on by designing, implementing, and replicating exceptional programming that centers on the needs of workers.
