Our mission is to provide education and training programs that empower workers, raise standards, and promote high quality jobs.


 
 
 

The SEIU Education and Support Fund (ESF) is a 501(c)(3) organization with a successful track record of nearly 30 years managing workforce development grants, developing educational materials, convening health and safety trainings, undertaking public informational efforts and improving standards in the public and service sectors. ESF partners with think tanks, policy makers, advocates, community colleges and businesses, as well as labor unions, chief among them the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).             

ESF has a long history of administering initiatives designed for health care workers, however, currently, our core sectors include early childhood education, human services and property services. ESF also manages labor-management training funds in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and California.

| OUR HISTORY |

 

1992

SEIU Education and Support Fund was established

1994

Received its first Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) grant to develop a train-the-trainer program to train nursing home workers and employes on how to prevent back injuries.

1995

Founded National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences funded Worker Education and Training Program for hospital and highway workers across the U.S.

2000

Began a Health Care Worker-Trainer model in English, Russian, Spanish and Chinese across NY, IL and CA.

2016-2017

Developed and administered early childhood apprenticeship programs in California and launched the National Early Educator Training Center (NEETC) beginning work with child care professionals across the country.

2019-2021

The NEETC launched four new national programs and began managing Training Funds in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island and Launched the SEIU Local 509 Human Service and Education Workers Training Fund.

2022-2023

Partnered with Building Skills Partnership (BSP) and SEIU local unions to expand a groundbreaking Green Janitor program for Property Service Workers. Collaborated with SEIU and CCPU to develop the CCPU Training Fund which aims to generate new impactful programming including those by Educator-Led Communities of Care working directly with Family Child Care Educators (FCCEs) in California and across the country
